A man is on the warpath, determinedly tracking down a rare woodpecker who is wreaking havoc on his house. What he discovers in pursuit is an ecology of sight and sound that defies every natural property he’s ever trusted in – and an environment far more surreal than he’d bargained for.

A classic tale of very American hubris (the Bush administration comes to mind), as a redneck hell-bent on taking out an evil-doing bird heads into the woods and finds himself utterly out of his depth, in a multi-dimensional world that he can't even begin to comprehend, let alone control.
